University of Maryland Master Gardener Program
You become a Master Gardener by successfully completing the Master Gardener training program and then volunteering your time.
Master Gardeners help the Maryland Cooperative Extension solve gardening problems and teach environmentally sound practices by
Master Gardener training classes are conducted annually by Maryland Cooperative Extension specialists, agents, and other horticulture professionals. Through the training program, participants are taught many different horticultural subjects by experts in the field.

The cost of training Master Gardeners varies. A fee is charged to cover the cost of the supplies and the literature used in training, which are then the Master Gardener's to keep. Your local Extension staff will inform you of these costs.
