Landscape Design

Government and non-profit organizations in our area have difficulty creating enduring, suitable, and beautiful landscapes on their grounds due to tight funding and limited time, skills, and/or experience.  To improve the situation, the Montgomery County Master Gardener Landscape Design Group was formed.

This Group began in 2002 with just two active Master Gardeners who saw the need and put their skills to use.  The size of the Group and the number of projects undertaken has grown every year.  The design process can be simple or protracted, depending upon the project.  Sometimes it takes only a single visit resulting in a list of recommendations.  Other projects require a detailed site plan and supporting documents.

The Montgomery County clients served have included several libraries, a police station, mainstream and special needs schools, two nature centers, a hospital-associated facility and a residence for senior citizens. The reach of these redesigned landscapes extends beyond the immediate staff to the patrons, neighborhoods and communities at large.

The Master Gardeners have received recognition in letters sent to the Montgomery County Council as well as both a 2004 NE Regional Master Gardener Conference “Search for Excellence” Award (Community School of Maryland) and the National Naval Medical Center Fisher House Anchor (Moon) Award.
